Sandie, I like your idea of taping family stories from various points of view. My suggestion would be to collect as much as you can and then have it edited into a shorter video for all family members. Although I do written family histories I work with a videographer to produce a package -- a comprehensive written history and a roughly 30-minute video of stories in the family's own words. You might also take an inexpensive (and practically invisible) digital audio recorder to family gatherings and let it run. You never know where those stories are going to pop up. Good luck!
